30th NBC Meeting

The 30th National Biosafety Committee (NBC) meeting, convened on November 8th, 2024, at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC & EC). Under the chairmanship of Secretary MoCC & EC and along with the Director-General Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and committee members, the meeting addressed crucial GMO-related cases. The committee unanimously approved multiple initiatives, including laboratory genetic manipulation research, field trials, and the import of GM Soybean grain for Food, Feed, and Processing (FFP). This comprehensive approval, based on the Technical Advisory Committee's (TAC) recommendations, demonstrates Pakistan's dedication to harnessing biotechnology responsibly for national development, particularly in advancing food security and sustainable agriculture. These decisions reflect the country's commitment to integrating innovative technologies while maintaining environmental stewardship standards.
