National Institute for Genomics & Advanced Biotechnology (NIGAB)

Established in 2007, NIGAB is a national reference lab for biotechnology diagnostics, supporting food security and sustainable development. It conducts cutting-edge agricultural research in plants, animals, and microbes through 28 advanced labs, glasshouses, and containment facilities. It develops GMOs, improved crop varieties, and livestock vaccines, utilizing genome editing, NGS, and marker-assisted selection. Key achievements include virus-free banana cultivation, 30 novel plant genes, and probiotic feed additives for enhanced dairy productivity.
